Interlinking permits to competencies

Product Suggestion

Introduce functionality that links permit types to predefined competency or credential requirements, allowing the system to automatically enforce mandatory requirements based on the permit selected within a project.

For example, if a user selects a specific permit type such as:

  • Hot Works

  • Working at Height

  • Electrical Isolation

  • Confined Space Entry

…the system would automatically require the relevant competencies, training records, or certifications before the project or permit can be approved.

This would create a more intelligent and automated compliance workflow by ensuring permit requirements are consistently aligned with the appropriate qualifications and safety documentation.

The functionality could potentially support:

  • Configurable permit-to-competency mappings

  • Automatic credential requests

  • Blocking approvals until mandatory requirements are met

  • Organisation-specific compliance rules

Problem Statement

Currently, permit requirements and competency checks may need to be managed manually, increasing the risk of missing mandatory qualifications or inconsistencies between projects and permit approvals.

This can create additional administrative effort and reliance on users manually identifying which competencies are required for each permit type.

Suggested Improvement

Allow administrators to configure mandatory competencies, credentials, or training requirements against specific permit types so they are automatically enforced during project and permit workflows.

Potential Benefits

  • Improved compliance and governance

  • Reduced manual checking

  • Consistent enforcement of safety requirements

  • Faster project and permit setup

  • Reduced risk of missing critical competencies

  • Increased automation within compliance workflows
