Prevent Permit Issue or Copy Where Contractor Has No Valid Induction

Current Behaviour

It is currently possible to issue permits outside of a project to contractors whose induction has expired or is no longer valid.

Requested Enhancement

When issuing a permit outside of a project, the system should verify that the selected contractor has a current, valid induction before allowing the permit to be issued.

If the contractor does not have a valid induction, the system should prevent the user from:

• Issuing a new permit to that contractor; and/or

• Copying an existing permit where the resulting permit would be issued to a contractor without a valid induction.

A clear validation message should be displayed to explain why the action cannot be completed.

Business Rationale

A valid induction is a fundamental control to ensure contractors have completed the necessary site-specific safety and compliance requirements before undertaking work. Permitting users to issue permits to contractors with expired inductions creates a risk that work could proceed without the appropriate authorisation or awareness of current site requirements.

Introducing this validation would strengthen compliance controls within the permit process and provide assurance that only contractors with an active induction can be authorised to carry out work.
